Welcome to the online home of The Stonewall Mission Church! We are:
  • An interdenominational Christian church located in Nashville, Tennessee
  • Affirming of members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Transgendered communities
  • Built on a foundation of four commitments:

WORSHIP

We believe that worship is at the heart of the congregation. Stonewall commits itself to creating an environment and liturgy which reflect the diversity of our community. We will sing the sacred songs appropriate to our community, pray for all life, and recall our stories of faith. We will celebrate the presence of God around a common table that welcomes everyone.

COMPASSION AND MERCY

We believe that as the congregation's heart should be focused on the worship of God, so should its hands be outstretched to those in need. Stonewall commits itself to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and caring for the sick and imprisoned. We will provide direct assistance to individuals, and work with other organizations to make positive systemic changes within our society.

DIVERSITY

We believe that diversity is part of the wonderful gift of God's creation. Stonewall commits itself to honoring and celebrating the diversity of life. We will work to identify and eliminate that which is oppressive to anyone, and to be a church which provides for the fullest participation of all its members.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

We believe that God is on the side of the poor and oppressed, and that we, as Christians, must be as well. Stonewall commits itself to actively participating in issues of social justice. We will work towards a just and peaceful world that defends the rights of all its citizens and nurtures them to grow to their fullest potential.

Dear Friends,

In December 1993, a group of women and men gathered at our home to discuss the possibility of forming a new church. This church was to be dedicated to "creating a sacred, spiritual space that promotes diversity, celebrates the interconnectedness of all life, shares our gifts freely in ministry, and gives glory for all these things to the One Who Is, the Source of Life." After several months of planning, Stonewall Mission Church held its first public worship service on Easter Sunday, 1994.

Today we are a growing community of people from all walks of life. I frequently say that our church is like Noah's Ark; we are gathering two (or more) of everything! I personally like it that way. The greater the diversity and openness within our community, the greater our strength individually and collectively.

For some, Stonewall is a safe boat on the raging seas of life. For others it is a vessel charting new seas. Whatever the nature of your own journey, I invite you to join us for worship on Sundays at 6:00 PM.

be both."
